CHANGES TO FINANCIAL HELP
The federal government is changing the rules for who can get financial help for health plans through Maryland Health Connection.
Who Qualifies for Financial Help
Starting January 1, 2027, some immigrants will no longer qualify for financial assistance that helps pay for private health plans. This is also called an advanced premium tax credit or APTC. You can still sign up for a health plan through Maryland Health Connection.
Financial assistance is still available for:
- U.S. citizens
- Lawful permanent residents (known as green card holders)
- Cuban or Haitian migrants
- Compact of Free Association (COFA) migrants
If your immigration status is not on this list:
You may still enroll in a private health plan, but you would pay the full monthly premium.
Pregnant?
Healthy Babies provides Medicaid coverage to pregnant women of any immigration status.
You can get a health plan for your pregnancy and up to 4 months after delivery.
If you’re not sure if this change applies to you, talk to someone before you make any changes to your coverage. Call 1-855-642-8572 for free help or visit www.MarylandHealthConnection.gov
