The College Success Scholars Service to Society Award is presented to an outstanding Latino or Black male who has made an indelible mark on the world through his service to philanthropic, professional, and or academic endeavors. The honoree demonstrates through words and deeds a commitment to service and contributing to the greater good of the community and Global world. “At the Gala, we recognize Black and Latino males in the external community who have an exemplary history of distinction through service in their professional field” said Dr. Christopher A. Lester, University of Maryland CSS Program Director.
Erick Oribio, produced and conducted Impacto Latino the first and only Community Radio Show in Spanish in Baltimore and broadcasted on CBS Radio in 1998; for this, he was honored by former Mayor Kurt Schmoke as Volunteer of the Year in Baltimore. Since then, he began a meteoric and ascendant professional career in Media, Community Outreach, Marketing and Public Relations in the US. Mr. Oribio has held relevant positions in Public Administration in Maryland and has been recipients of numerous awards including Maryland Governor’s and Baltimore City Mayor’s Citations, Maryland Susan G. Komen Pink Ribbon, Maryland Hispanic Bar Association’s Media Person of the Year, and Maryland Hispanic Business of the Year, among others. Mr. Oribio is currently the President and CEO of Latin Opinion LLC, Publisher of Latin Opinion Maryland Newspaper, President of Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Maryland Governor’s Commissioner on Hispanic Affairs.
“It is a great honor and a privilege to be receiving such an important award, which I share with my family, my friends, and specially with all those people who have helped me along the way, even through difficult circumstances. This recognition inspires me to continue my efforts to make significant contributions to the society, and for a better quality of life for all”, Oribio commented. “It’s definitely a very special day for me” concluded.
The event will be held at 6pm on Saturday, April 1, 2017 in the Colony Ballroom at the University of Maryland College Park.
