Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band today announced the Grand Opening Performance at the newly restored Baltimore Arena on Friday, April 7, 2023.
The date is part of a 31-date U.S. tour, kicking off their 2023 international tour spanning from February 1 in Tampa, FL, through an April 14 homecoming in Newark, NJ, before heading to Europe. The shows will mark Springsteen and The E Street Band’s first tour dates since February 2017, and their first in North America since September 2016.
European dates for the 2023 international tour were announced in May and over 1.2 million tickets have already been purchased across the continent, with many cities adding second or third stadium shows due to popular demand. At the conclusion of their European run, which is scheduled for April through July 2023, Springsteen and The E Street Band will begin a second to-be-announced North American tour leg in August. Tour dates in the UK will also take place next year, with cities and shows to be announced very soon.
The tour will be using Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan platform for tickets sold via Ticketmaster. All registrants who are verified will be equally eligible to receive a unique access code for the Verified Fan Onsale. Springsteen and The E Street Band’s most recent studio album, 2020’s ‘Letter To You’ (Columbia Records), marked their first time recording live together in decades and debuted at #1 in eleven countries. Their most recent tour, The River Tour in 2016-2017, was named 2016’s top global tour by both Billboard and Pollstar.
The E Street Band’s members are: Roy Bittan – piano, synthesizer; Nils Lofgren – guitar, vocals; Patti Scialfa – guitar, vocals; Garry Tallent – bass guitar; Stevie Van Zandt – guitar, vocals; and Max Weinberg – drums; with Soozie Tyrell – violin, guitar, vocals; Jake Clemons – saxophone; and Charlie Giordano – keyboards.
Springsteen first performed at the Baltimore Arena on June 2, 1973. He also performed there on November 20, 2009, and most recently on April 20, 2016
Springsteen’s grand opening performance will be the first of many to showcase how a modernized Baltimore Arena will draw world-class artists to the area. The arena is being reimagined in the heart of downtown. Renovations will create unique and memorable experiences for fans, including the addition of seats and suites, refurbished concourses, upgraded concessions areas, and beautiful appearance. Additional upgrades to the facility will focus on world-class acoustics to amplify the audio experience; next-generation touchless and self-serve technologies to minimize food & beverage and merchandise transaction times; sustainability initiatives such as using locally sourced materials, LED lighting, and low flow and waterless fixtures; and renovations to the venue’s back of house. Baltimore Arena will be home to more than 100 nights of entertainment every year and will transform the heart of downtown Baltimore to support the revitalization of the area.
Tim Leiweke, Oak View Group Chairman and CEO commented, “We promised the City of Baltimore and the surrounding region the best in live and entertainment, and we are proud to welcome Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band to help kick off our grand opening celebration of the newly restored Baltimore Arena.”
The newly restored arena is Oak View Group’s latest development project after recently opening the new Moody Center on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, TX; UBS Arena at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY; Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, WA; and Enmarket Arena in Savannah, GA. In Maryland, OVG360, a division of Oak View Group, operates the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena on the campus of UMBC in Baltimore, MD.
