With great passion, Eduardo Martínez, joined, since he was a child, the world of the Mini Cooper, and through the years, he has turned this great admiration into a project which is about to be fulfilled.
Eduardo Martínez is a talented Young man, studying the fourth semester of Social Communication in the Catholic University Andrés Bello. Being as young as 21, he already has carried out for a few years, an interesting project about a comic, which narrates the golden age of the English corporation Cooper.
Since his childhood, Martínez became a fan of the Mini Cooper vehicles, because his mother had one and he dreamed about also owning one of these precious little cars. This dream came true when he became 16 years old and was able to acquire a model 1995.
His love for these cars led him to investigate thoroughly about everything related to them. By doing so, he got to meet the Cooper family, specifically Michel Cooper, John Cooper’s son; with whom he has been able to relate for a long time, thanks to social networks, such as Skype.
But, let us allow Eduardo himself to tell us about his project and the way he has been developing it. “Everything started because I had a black Mini Cooper, which we bought when I turned 18 and I got my driver’s license. It was not my car for daily use, but I drove it to attend events or expos”, he said.
Martínez pointed out that even though he sold his Mini Cooper last year, he is still considering buying another one. “Thanks to that car I could contact the Cooper family. Each Mini Cooper has a life history; that is why I investigated deeply, especially for the model I had. Through the records and the history of the car, I could contact the Cooper family and I realized that my car had been driven by John Cooper, the creator of these brand that hit the market in 1963”, he explained.
He also considers that although the Mini Cooper is a classic car, it is beautiful, timeless and it will never be out of fashion. “Because of the experience with my car, I knew that the Mini Cooper has presence; it is more than a car, it has a soul. Many people say it is “a tiny car with a great heart”. That is why I keep a lot of love for the Mini Cooper and for the Cooper family, because now, that I know the facts about who John Cooper and his son Michel have been, I see that the effort they have made is remarkable”, he said with a lot of passion and pride.
Eduardo´s project: Comics about the Mini Cooper
Eduardo Martínez’s Project began 4 years ago, with the idea of creating a short movie, based in the years ’90 and which somehow shows the life of the creator of the Mini Cooper, John Cooper. “It is a story written by me, an invention, but including some facts”, he pointed.
He could not fulfill this movie; so last year he decided to complete the comics version. “I had created a story board with all the details that the movie would have, and I realized that I could go beyond: I could complete it to make a story, which is what I’m currently doing”, he stated.
He also explained that he presented the project to Michel Cooper, letting him know that it was non-profit; only to state the story of the Mini Cooper and the experience of all who were close to John Cooper. “the story is centered in the years ’90 and their best moments, the golden years of the company and how they went by. I also want to emphasize on how the Cooper family was acknowledged for their achievements, both as a corporation and within the social and humanitarian fields”, he added after exhibiting the drafts of the comics that he drew on his own, as a matter of fact, with great talent.
Finally, Eduardo Martínez announced that his project will be concluded by March this year. “What remains pending are just final touches, concluding the script, which is going to be digitalized for people to read; and there will also be a printed version, by request”, he concluded.
