New Shiloh Marks 122 Years of Faith and Honors Rev. Stephens
“A Celebration of Legacy and Community Unity in Baltimore”
In early October, New Shiloh Baptist Church commemorated its 122nd anniversary with an emotional ceremony honoring Reverend Jerome Stephens, a prominent figure in the community and long-standing representative for Senator Ben Cardin. This event served as a profound expression of gratitude for Stephens’ tireless efforts, which have strengthened the connection between faith and public service in Baltimore, Maryland, and across the nation.
Senator Ben Cardin, with a distinguished career in Congress, was a keynote speaker at the event. Cardin, who will retire in November, highlighted Stephens’ significant contributions as his Director of Community Relations, lauding his dedication to service and his ability to bridge politics and community needs. In turn, attendees expressed their gratitude for Cardin’s leadership and his decades-long commitment to the nation. Through this ceremony, Senator Cardin and Reverend Stephens symbolized a robust partnership and shared values, leaving an indelible legacy within the community.
Also in attendance were other prominent political leaders, including Governor Wes Moore, who offered heartfelt words on the importance of leaders like Stephens and Cardin in building an inclusive community and a stronger state. Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, State Comptroller Brooke Lierman, and Congressman Kweisi Mfume also paid tribute to Reverend Stephens, underscoring the significance of his work throughout Maryland.
The church, led by Pastor Dr. Harold A. Carter, Jr., and Deacon Michael Warner, warmly welcomed attendees, offering a service filled with music and prayer that inspired all.
